• SC CONTRA A DENGUE is the name of the app developed by the winners of the AHF-sponsored Dengue Prizes Brazil 2015. This innovative tool helps citizens to communicate dengue outbreaks directly to  ministry of health officials by setting an alert in a map where  cases of dengue are occurring.  Furthermore, it allows citizens to enroll as volunteers for the clinical trials of the dengue vaccine. The app is available for Android, iOs and Windows.
  • The growth of the CDx sector has been significant in the past several years with much of the activity focused in the area of oncology.  AHF convened a panel of Brazilian experts on oncology and companion diagnostics to review existing barriers and develop practical recommendations concerning policy fixes for the use of companion diagnostics (CDx) and personalized medicines for oncology in Brazil. 
  • The Americas Health Foundation, in conjunction with the Latin American Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (SLIPE), recently convened a Varicella Vaccination Task Force to advice for more effective programs and policies aimed at increasing the rate of varicella vaccination in the region. The Task Force developed a position paper on varicella prevention including a series of recommendations for expanding varicella vaccination throughout Latin America. 
  • Following a consensus conference convened by AHF, that brought together a group of Latin American experts on anesthesiology, surgery and pain to develop recommendations that will lead to more efficient and effective pain management, the article produced at the conference, Optimizing Post-Operative Pain Management in Latin America, was published online on June 18, 2016 in the Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology.   • Beginning in January 2016, AHF will implement a dengue medical education and disease awareness project in the CANAC region. The project will include the development of an accredited dengue course and the presentation of several dengue workshops in various countries throughout the CANAC region in 2016. 
  • On November 10-11, 2015, the Central University of Ecuador (Universidad Central del Ecuador) hosted the First University Forum on Public Health (Primer Foro Universitario de Salud Pública) to discuss issues concerning “Access and Regulation of Biotherapeutic Drugs and Other Products in Ecuador.” The conference focused on the future of biosimilar drugs in Latin America and was attended by over 300 local and international visitors, including health students and pro
  • On November 24th, 2015, the Americas Health Foundation participated in the First International Forum on “the Challenges of Biosimilars” (Foro Internacional “El desafio de los biosimilares”) at the Centro de Convenciones 28 de Julio in Lima, Peru. The conference focused on the challenges associated with increasing access to biosimilars in both Peru and Latin America generally. The Forum was attended by local and international visitors, including health professionals, researchers, and representatives of patient associations, government agencies, and regulating bodies.
  • In response to a variety of needs represented by differing vaccination policies across Central America and the Caribbean, the AHF has convened a Central America (CAM) Dengue Task Force comprised of clinicians from Central America and the Caribbean who specialize in diagnosing and treating dengue. Given that dengue has a high impact on public health in the Region, it is necessary that epidemiological information from individual countries be collected and analyzed in order to develop the best strategy from vaccine implementation in the Region as a whole.
  • As a follow-up to the Dengue Task Force meeting, in regard to planning for country-specific outreach, AHF sponsored the participation of several Dengue Task Force members and a KOL in a 1.5 day Dengue Symposium, “Retos en la Prevención Y Control Del Dengue Avances Y Proyección de la EGI-Dengue en la Región de las Americas” organized with the Colombia Ministry of Health as part of  the larger XVI Congreso Colombiano de Parasitología Y Medicina Tropical 2015 held in Santa Marta, Colombia October 21 -22.
